New major Cement orders since October 2008

Russian cement producer adds to existing contract
Marl storageEarly in 2008, OOO Kurskaya Stroitelnaya Companiya contracted FLSmidth to provide engineering and equipment for its 3,500 tonnes per day greenfield plant. The plant is located near the city of Kursk, some 700 kilometres south of Moscow.

Kurskaya is now strengthening its relationship with FLSmidth by placing another contract for the same project. The new contract includes additional machinery parts, ducts, pipes, bricks and insulation for the machines that FLSmidth is already supplying.

Delivery of the equipment will take place from early 2009 to some time in 2010.

SigningLong-standing Spanish customer invests in vertical cement mill
Compared to a traditional ball mill, the OK 33-4 vertical cement mill at Tudela Veguín will significantly reduce CO2 emissions. The new mill is specially designed to produce both high Blaine cement and ground slag. The entire mill installation will be supplied on a turnkey basis, and it is the first slag grinding mill to be installed by FLSmidth in Europe.

The FLSmidth equipment plays a key role in Tudela Veguín’s project to increase and modernise its cement grinding capacity at the Aboño plant near the city of Gijón in the Spanish province of Asturias. Over the past eighty years FLSmidth has also contributed engineering and equipment to other Tudela Veguín cement projects. The Spanish company today runs three plants and is among the largest cement producers in northern Spain.

ViachaBolivian SOBOCE selects FLSmidth for expansion of cement plant
Sociedad Boliviana de Cementos S.A. – SOBOCE – has awarded a contract to FLSmidth for the equipment and engineering for expansion of their Viacha cement plant. The expansion project will enable SOBOCE to double its current capacity from 1,000 tonnes per day to 2,000 tonnes per day at their plant outside the capital city of La Paz, Bolivia. Nestled within the Andes Mountains, the Viacha plant is located at 3,850 metres above sea level making it one of the highest located cement plants in the world.

The contract includes conversion of the existing SP (suspension preheater) system to an SLC system (separate-line calciner system). The scope of supply includes a new 5–stage SLC preheater tower, a new conditioning tower, a new tertiary air duct, an upgrade to the existing kiln drive, a new kiln feed system and various process fans. The existing Coolax clinker cooler will be modified by adding a new, third RFT grate cooler section. Furthermore, a comprehensive electrical, control and automation package will be provided by FLSmidth Automation; and FLSmidth Airtech will supply a new baghouse for dedusting of the entire pyroprocessing system.

The existing line was installed by FLSmidth in the late 1990s, and the awarding of this contract is evidence of the continued close collaboration of the two parties. Start-up is scheduled for early 2010.

Peruvian cement producer expands to meet growing demand
YURA S.A. has ordered a new 4,200 tonnes per day pyroprocessing line for its existing cement plant near Arequipa in southern Peru. The new line will incorporate the most modern processes in the form of an ILC 5-stage preheater with low NOx and low CO calciner and a 5 m x 65 m two-support kiln. Also included in the project are a Multi-Movable Cross-bar cooler with HRB clinker breaker, a CF silo and a kiln feed system plus all the main process bag filters.

This equipment was selected with a view to minimising operating costs and ensuring compliance with World Bank environmental standards. YURA’s expanded capacity will enable it to meet the demand for cement and concrete products triggered by government plans for development of the country’s infrastructure.

YURA S.A. is part of the Grupo Gloria industrial conglomerate, which is present in several Latin American countries. The cement company is Peru’s fourth largest producer and a leading supplier of concrete products in the southern part of the country.
